Week 3 Round-Up: Halloween Kids' Parties, Silver Screen Magic, Fall Feasting & More!

Here comes the third week of Macabre Manistee County!

The main branch of the Manistee County Library has lots of fun in store for the young ones--stories, games, crafts and more!  Be sure to pre-register for the first Halloween Party (Saturday at 1pm) or the second one (Monday the 17th at 6pm).  See Events #21 & #22 on the Event Map.

Fall feasting will help you warm up before or after your plans for the day.  Community meals in Arcadia (Eat to [H]EAT) and Brethren (Autumn Soup Luncheon) are a perfect way to fuel up while meeting old friends (or new ones).  See the Events page for these two new, updated events.

The silver screen lights up with Tristan and Isolde at the Ramsdell.  This dramatic opera is filled with magic and vengeance, after a planned marriage goes awry.  More entertainment options can be found at the Vogue Theatre (Kung Fu Panda 3 on Saturday, the classic Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920) on Wednesday--see Event #9).

Manistee's Ghost Ship continues on the remaining Fridays & Saturdays in October.  See #13 on the Event Map for more information.

And there's plenty more to do--museums, scarecrow displays, a corn maze, apple farm tours, hayrides and wine tasting.  Are you conjuring up a scary story for the Manistee County Library's contest? See all of October's events and download your own Event Map here. There's so much to do, it's scary!

Week 2 Round-Up: Manistee's Ghost Ship, Harvest Festivals, Music and More!

The second week of Macabre Manistee County is here!

Manistee's Ghost Ship (pictured) is back and spookier than ever--it opens Friday, Oct. 7, continues on Saturday, and the remaining Fridays & Saturdays in October.  See #13 on the Event Map for more information.

Susan Lund-Coyle's historic Cemetery Walks continue this Saturday & Sunday--the last opportunities this year.  Just $2 per person. See #10 on the Event Map for more information.

Harvest festivals have ripened and are ready to enjoy!  Onekama's Fall Festival begins at 10am on Saturday (Event #14) and Bear Lake's Autumn Glory Day starts at 11am on Saturday (Event #15).  Food and fun await you!  If you're especially hungry, make a point of stopping by Marilla Museum's Fall Fish Boil (Event #16).  Or attend the Big Bear Sportsman's Club Banquet (get the tools for supplying your table with wild game the next day at their gun and knife show--Events #17 &18, respectively).

Entertainment options can be found at the Vogue Theatre (Coraline on Saturday, the classic Nosferatu on Wednesday--see Event #9).  And the acclaimed Jeremy Kittel Trio takes the stage at the Ramsdell Theatre (Event #19).

And there's plenty more to do--museums, scarecrow displays, a corn maze, apple farm tours, hayrides and wine tasting.  Are you conjuring up a scary story for the Manistee County Library's contest? See all of October's events and download your own Event Map here. There's so much to do, it's scary!

Week 1 Round-Up: Cemetery Walks, Hayrides & Wine Tasting

The first week of Macabre Manistee County is upon us!

Don't miss Susan Lund-Coyle's historic Cemetery Walks (pictured), full of local personalities from the past and stories you may not have heard before. Offered this Saturday & Sunday at 4pm (two more opportunities next weekend). $2 per person. See #10 on the Event Map for more information.

Looking for some magic? The Vogue Theatre's Kids' Film series ushers in a whole month of movie fun and mystery. This Saturday at 10am, see Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory. Admission is only 25 cents. Lots more in store for the Vogue's Macabre Manistee Movies. See #9 on the Event Map.

Hayrides and wine tasting celebrate the fall harvest at Douglas Valley Winery, both Saturday and Sunday--and throughout the month. See #7 on the Event Map.

And there's plenty more to do--museums in Marilla and Kaleva, scarecrow displays, a corn maze, apple farm tours and live music. It's also a good time to start thinking up a scary story for the Manistee County Library's contest. See all of October's events and download your own Event Map here. Lock Your Doors

The Gatekeeper awoke this morning, but appears to be a bit groggy, still.  Our Gatekeeper Cam was on (click here)--and we have to admit, he operated it rather poorly.  Does anyone offer selfie lessons?
